WEIO – 2017

July 16 – 25, 2017

weio-1

This will be the fifth year that LightShine Ministries has the opportunity to work with the World Eskimo Indian Olympics (WEIO) in Fairbanks, AK. During these events, we work alongside Scott Smith who is the director of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Arctic Mercy from Homer. This mission is an opportunity to serve in any way that we are asked to help. We usually are asked to help set up for the various events, sell soft goods, work the registration desk, and check the door in the evening for the paying public. We are there to mingle with and befriend the participants as well as, the attendees. This is the perfect opportunity to let them see the light of Jesus shine through us. Please pray that God will use this mission to bring honor and glory to Him in everything we do.

One thing that our team must always remember is that we are there to serve and learn as representatives of Jesus Christ. The differences between the indigenous culture and our own can become obvious in things such as how you shake hands or make eye contact with those you are talking to. Our goal is to share the love of Christ by serving others and it is also a time of learning how God works within other cultures to bring about His glory.

WEIO runs for four days (Wednesday through Saturday). The team usually has a day or two of sightseeing in the Fairbanks area as well as to or from Anchorage (including a stop at Denali National Park), but this is secondary to our purpose of being there for WEIO.

This team is filling up fast!

If you want to be part of this team, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee purchases your embroidered Carhartt Henley Team Shirt and locks you in as a team member. Then you will be able to begin the process of raising the $1750 for this trip.

How to Raise Missionary Support

Many people choose to pay their own way but others choose to operate through their local church seeking missionary support. We highly recommend the latter although we leave it completely up to you. This is a missions trip. Therefore we help all team members communicate with their local church members, family and friends in describing the work that lays ahead for you. You will be working approximately 40 hours during your week in Alaska. This should not be seen as a vacation either by you or by those sending you. There is a job to be done. The Bible teaches that all of us who are followers of Jesus have been given gifts and talents by Him to be used for teaching our world Who He is!

When you register to be a part of this team, you will be given support letters upon your request to hand out to family and friends seeking their financial support. It will be our goal to establish a relationship between you and the people sending you as missionaries to Alaska. Later we will give you a list of all those who supported you so that you can thank them and give them your prayer requests for the trip.

What are the deadlines for raising the money?

There are two deadlines for raising support.

Half of your support ($875) must be raised by May 5, 2017. This allows us to have the money in place to purchase airline tickets.

The deadline for raising the balance of your financial support will be June 17, 2017. It is very important that you take the cost of the trip and this deadline seriously. There are a lot of expenses in organizing a trip like this one and we need every participant to do their part.

Please begin to pray about your involvement with our team this July and talk to your spouse and employer about setting these dates aside. It is highly recommended that you begin to raise support as early as possible. Every year people get worried as the trip approaches because they wish they would have started raising funds earlier. Please plan ahead and make your commitment now.
