Since the beginning of LightShine Ministries in Alaska, Mert & Jean Weaver have been a blessing to us and helped establish our ministry. Mert & Jean have been career missionaries for decades sharing the love of Jesus Christ all over the world. They always opened their home to our LightShine teams over the last 21 years and have also provided needed transportation to and from Anchorage in the early years before we owned our own vehicles.
In 2011, Mert was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and has been in a home in Anchorage since then. Jean continues to live in their home in Tazlina as a faithful missionary and continues to work with Copper Center Community Chapel as their pianist and bookkeeper. Because she lives alone in a wilderness setting, we have been supplying her with firewood for the last couple years and will continue to in the future.
Our team of four men (Butch Gressley, Andrew Smither, Timothy Dixon and Roman Lapp) worked with Ken John, Andrew Johns, Ike Hobson and Jesse Turner to help Jean collect the wood she needs to survive the harsh Alaskan winter.
If you would like to be part of next year’s firewood cutting team, check our “2017 Teams” page.
