Strelna Lake Wilderness Bible Camp is a remote youth camp ministry of Copper Center Community Chapel in Copper Center, Alaska. This camp brings the word of God to native children in the Copper Valley and teaches them important survival skills. LightShine Ministries has been helping to build this amazing camp since 1998.
Team members for Strelna Lake will want to enjoy the outdoors: hiking, canoeing, fishing, cooking over a campfire and being “off the grid” for a few days. To get to the camp, you will either be hiking your gear about a mile and half down the mountain or canoeing your gear 2 miles up the Strelna Lake. This mission trip is well suited for the rugged outdoorsman or outdoorswoman and as a bonus, you will have the opportunity to fish for your dinner.
This team is unique in that there are two projects at two locations. The first project is cutting firewood for an elder in Tazlina which will probably be two days of work and the second project will working at Strelna Lake Bible Camp making repairs to the cabins, cook shack and Chapel.
We are looking for 4 – 6 team members for this mission trip with one or two team members that have experience in running a chainsaw and cutting firewood. For the other members, basic carpentry would be helpful and you must be able to help carry, split and stack firewood.
If you want to be part of this team, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of an embroidered Carhartt team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The total support needed for this trip is $1,750. The first financial deadline for half your support ($875) is due on March 17, 2017. This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your other half ($875) is due by April 28, 2017. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.
The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did!
