KCAM Radio Station Team in Glennallen – 2018

February 3-10

We are excited to bringing you a new team opportunity for those of you who desire to experience Alaska in the winter. This team will be leaving Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 3 and working for a week at the only radio station in the Copper River Valley that has been ministering to interior “bush” Alaska KCAM since it 1964. Below is a winter photo of the radio station with Mount Drum and the Wrangell/St.Elias National park at the horizon.

KCAM exists to perform effective broadcasting ministry through evangelism, instruction, and public service. It is also a lifeline for rural Alaskans. Glennallen is located about 3 hours northeast of Anchorage along the scenic Glenn Highway.

Your team leader will be Jamie Feathers. Jamie (pictured here with his wife Marsha) have 5 children ranging in age from 21-2.  They previously served with SEND International in Glennallen in 2004-2005.  They currently live in Strasburg where Jamie currently works at Sight and Sound Theatres as the facilities maintenance supervisor. Marsha is a stay at home mom and also oversees the homeschooling. If you have any questions about this trip, you can contact your team leader, Jamie Feathers at: jamie@jfmechanical.net or call his cell phone: 717-669-4788

Here is a message from Jamie:

“My name is Jamie Feathers and I want to share an opportunity with you about a team I will be leading in February to work at KCAM radio station in Glennallen, Alaska (pictured above). When I asked the station manager, Scott Yahr (to the right) to describe KCAM and the benefits of this project this is what he shared.

“KCAM is the only radio station for 140 miles in any direction in South Central Alaska. We serve the area with the Good News of the gospel as well as local news, events, quality teaching programs and encouraging music.”

He also went on to add, “Our announcers all raise their own support and we want to have housing available for these missionaries. We also have volunteers that come to serve for short terms and we need to have housing for their time of service.”

You can check out more about them at www.KCAM.org.

Volunteers are currently working on this building that will be used for housing staff workers but they need help to finish this project.  We are specifically looking for 6 drywall hanger/finishers but will need some general help as well for assisting the team in general. There may also be a need for some painting to be done. All the work is interior work because the temperatures in Glennallen at this time of year are well below zero. As you can see, its nice and warm inside even though it is very cold outside.

Please pray that God would raise up a good team to serve here and also get the opportunity to see the absolute beauty of Alaska.”

What is the cost to be part of this team?

The cost to be a part of this team is $1600. Please print out this REGISTRATION FORM and send it in to LightShine Ministries with a $40 registration fee. You can also fill out the online form to the right. This fee covers the cost of an embroidered Carhartt team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The first financial deadline for half your support ($800) is due on December 16, 2017. This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your entire amount is January 5, 2018. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.

The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did!

If you have any questions about this trip, you can contact your team leader, Jamie Feathers at: jamie@jfmechanical.net or call his cell phone: 717-669-4788
