We are excited to announce our schedule for building at our base camp in August 2018.
After 23 years of bringing skilled labor from Pennsylvania and borrowing vehicles, tools and land from other ministries in Alaska, the LORD, through His people, has given us 4.62 acres to establish our own missionary base of operations in Alaska. For many of you, you have embraced LightShine Alaska as a ministry worthy of your time and talents. We ask you to consider helping us develop this property. We view this property simply as a tool for building up churches and Bible camps in Alaska. This photo from Globe Creek Camp north of Fairbanks shows the heart of why we do what we do – blessing people and helping them become mature followers of Jesus Christ.

In August, after all of our regular teams are finished with their team assignments this summer, our primary focus will be to build our first building on our newly acquired property that we purchased in November of 2017. We will be building a 28’x60′ garage that will house our vehicles, trailers and tools. This is a much needed building which we have been praying for for many years. The harsh Alaskan winters are hard on vehicles and we are thankful that we will be finally able to keep our things inside this coming winter!
This garage (above) will have a kitchen, dining room and bathroom in the walk-in door area and steps to go upstairs where there will be an area to set up our cots for housing teams till we are able to build a larger bunk house in the future. The yellow caution tape (below) marks off the area where this garage will be built. Obviously trees will have to be removed and a road and driveway put in.

Our Director of Facilities – Mel Miller is seen in this photo (above) on site in April. Mel is leading the team (pictured here in the white shirt) with Ministry Director – Tom Denlinger (behind the camera). Steve Hoey (in the blue shirt) is our Director of Team Leader Development and is also an electrician. Bill Endslow (far right) is leading the Excavating and Foundation Crew. Carl Ginder (next to Bill) is our Board Chairman and retired as a site development professional. Ron Good (center) is leading the Framing and Roofing Crew on August 23rd. Ben Ebersole (not in this photo) recommended and designed the trussing and prepared actual blueprints for the building construction.

Here is our schedule for August and the personnel we need:
Saturday, August 4 – 11
We will be cutting in a road in a wooded area, removing the topsoil and laying down driveway fabric before having stone brought in. Then we will prepare the site for the footers, foundation walls and concrete floor. Our goal is to finish this work by August 11.
Saturday, August 11 – Sunday, August 19
Foundation Crew & Concrete Floor Finishers
We need 2 concrete floor finishers on August 11. You will depart from Pennsylvania on Saturday morning, August 11 and fly to Anchorage, Alaska where we will pick you up and take you to Palmer, Alaska where you will be working with us for the following week. We will be moving stone, setting up foam blocks, pouring walls, installing rebar, pouring and finishing the cement floor. All the tools we need to do the job will be on site. Bill Endslow who will be the foreman on this job and has his own construction business in Pennsylvania. He has been working with LightShine Ministries for many years. The cost of this trip is $1850 and will include airline tickets, a place to sleep, three meals per day and a day of sightseeing when we get the work done. Because this is a missionary team assignment, you should expect to start each day with prayer and a devotional from the Bible. You will be working with Bill Endslow and Tom Denlinger who will have already been there preparing the site during the previous week.
Thursday, August 23 – Sunday, September 1
Framing & Roofing Crew
This will be a fun week of working with a dozen people building this building on the foundation that has been prepared earlier in the month. We need 4 experienced framers and 3 fearless roofers skilled in (8/12 pitch) metal roof installation. We would also like to have 2 technicians skilled in installing windows and 3 garage doors. All you should bring is your own nail bag and personal hand tools (whatever you are used to carrying). All the other tools we need will be available on site.
We will be staying at the Sunderland Ranch (a mile up the road) and experiencing some grass roots Alaskan cowboy good times! Many of the team members (who are already signed up) are experienced LightShine volunteers and we guarantee you will enjoy this week in Alaska. We will also be taking you on a day trip to see some amazing scenery during your stay.
The cost of this trip is $1850 and will include airline tickets, a place to sleep, three meals per day. Because this is a missionary team assignment, you should expect to start each day with prayer and a devotional from the Bible.
Ron Good will be your team leader and has led many teams for LightShine Ministries. Ron is a board member for LightShine Ministries and is an experienced carpenter and estimator at Ebersole Brothers in Mount Joy, PA. Ron’s desire is for this team assignment to be a life changing experience for you and that God would use you to further His Kingdom building in Alaska. Becoming a Team Member
If you want to be part of any of the teams on this page, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of an embroidered Carhartt team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Then you will be able to begin the process of raising the $1850 for this trip. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The first financial deadline for half your support ($925) is due on June 14, 2018.
This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your entire amount is due July 26, 2018. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.
The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did!
