We are very excited to announce a new project for LightShine Ministries September 27 – October 7
in Homer, Alaska. Homer is a beautiful town and is considered a favorite destination, even by other Alaskans. CLICK HERE
to read more about Homer. The average daily temperatures during the beginning of October are in the 40’s to low 50’s (much warmer than other parts of Alaska during this time). LightShine has worked in the past with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Arctic Mercy which is based out of Homer. Many of the YWAM students attend Regent Life Church
and the church ministry is growing. The town is an “artsy” place with many people who are in need of abundant life that comes only through Jesus Christ.
Recently, Lanny Simpson (to the right), who is one of the pastors at Regent Life Church, contacted us and told us of an amazing new building that they had recently purchased that they desire to make into a new and bigger church building. It is the former bowling alley and has an adjoining restaurant and upstairs apartments. The restaurant will remain a source of income for the church and they plan to rent out the upstairs apartments to YWAM Arctic Mercy. Needless to say, there will be a lot of work to do in transforming the building into the new church facility.

Steve Hoey (pictured here with his wife Renee) will be leading this team and desires to fill this team with several skilled people to help the church complete their work that they will be doing all summer. By October, they hope to be ready to do finish out work. We are seeking 6-8 skilled tradesmen and women to help with this project. Our tasks may include: drywall finishing, trim work, painting, flooring, siding, sound system installing, and building a playground as well as helping to finish their coffee shop. Individuals who are flexible in their skill sets are encouraged to apply.
Becoming a Team Member
If you want to be part of any of the teams on this page, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of an embroidered Carhartt team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Then you will be able to begin the process of raising the $1650 for this trip. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The first financial deadline for half your support ($825) is due on July 26, 2018.
This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your entire amount is due August 30, 2018. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.
The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did!
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
