May 18 – June 2, 2019
This team will be really be two separate teams that will be preparing the foundation for our new 28’x60′ garage. In August of 2018, we removed trees and stumps and laid in a new road in preparation of team. You will see the rectangle area in this photo where the future building will be. In the photo below, you will see a view from the proposed front of the building and parking areas in front of the doors.
May 18-26 – Footers – The first team will be arriving on Saturday, May 18, going to church on Sunday and enjoying their first Sunday in Alaska meeting new people and seeing some sites. But on Monday, the work begins! We will be working with a local backhoe operator to dig footers around the base of our site, set foam forms, install rebar and pour our walls.
May 25 – June 2 – Floor Finishers – This team will be installing rebar and pouring and finishing the main floor in the garage.
If you want to be part of this team, you must plan on “roughing it” with the rest of us for the first week. The Set Up Team will be arriving three days before us to set up cabins tents and cots but they will continue to work on getting all our systems in place while you work on the foundation. Expect to sleep in sleeping bags and use an outhouse. But you will not go hungry! Eventually, the new garage will have a sleeping quarters upstairs and kitchen downstairs. Those of you who work on this team will look back at the end of 2019 at the new building will be able to say your sacrifice was well worth it!
Mel Miller will be leading this trip and is a veteran team leader serving with LightShine since 2008. Mel is Director of Construction Services at Messiah Village and is also a board member and our Director of Facilities for LightShine Ministries. He is looking for gifted and talented workers who have experience in excavating, foundation and concrete work. But Mel is looking for men with a servant’s heart with the goal of giving honor and glory to our LORD Jesus Christ. If you have any interest or questions please email him at email@example.com or call him at (717) 418-6089.
The cost of this trip is $1850 and will include airline tickets, and three meals per day. Because this is a missionary team assignment, you should expect to start each day with prayer and a devotional from the Bible.
Becoming A Team Member
If you want to be part of this team, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of an embroidered Carhartt team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Then you will be able to begin the process of raising the $1850 for this trip. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The first financial deadline for half your support ($925) is due on March 8.
This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your entire amount is due April 19. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.
More information will be added to this team’s page in the next couple weeks.
The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did!
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
