Strelna Lake Wilderness Bible Camp 2022

August 19 -28, 2022

Strelna Lake Wilderness Bible Camp is a remote youth camp ministry of Copper Center Community Chapel in Copper Center, Alaska. This camp brings the Word of God to Alaska Native children in the Copper Valley and teaches them important survival skills. LightShine Ministries has been helping to build this amazing camp since 1998. You can view photos from those years HERE.

Team members need to be willing to work hard, backpack your gear over a mile through Alaska wilderness and/or canoe 2 miles to get to camp. There is no running water at the camp so we will be drinking from the lake and “roughing it” during our time there. This means using an outhouse and creative personal hygiene . There is no electricity at the lake as well and if you can get a phone signal, consider yourself fortunate.

This Team’s Assignment

The following photos are from our 2005 team when we chinked Cabin 1. Old moss was removed and logs were treated. Then we cut and stripped saplings for backer rods (where gaps were too wide for chinking) and then installed them. Then the chinking was applied with a caulk gun and smoothed out.  The goal of this year’s team is to do another cabin just like this.

Team Leader – Tom Denlinger

Tom is the founder of LightShine Alaska and worked with Mike Potts (pastor of Copper Center Community Chapel from 1995-2001) and youth pastor A.J. Kajer to build the camp from its beginning. In 2005 he lead a team that replaced moss chinking with permachink on Cabin 1. The new pastor, Ron Paull and his wife, Jean want us to chink another cabin and do some repairs to the Bible camp.  Tom’s desire is to assemble a team that can do the job – maybe even securing some veteran “chinkers” from years past!

If you want to be part of this team, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of a team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The total support needed for this trip is $1,950. The first financial deadline for half your support ($975) is due on June 24, 2022. This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your other half ($975) is due by July 22, 2022. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.

The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did!
