The following video shows you what life is like for the people who live in the Copper River Valley. Watch this video and ask the LORD to give you wisdom as you prepare to serve.

2024 will be our 12thyear of working with our friends in Gulkana Village. If you would like to see a photo report from last year’s team, CLICK HERE.
Over the years the faces have changed within Gulkana’s leadership but our relationship with them (and resolve to minister to the needs there) continues to grow.

At this time, Gulkana Village is considering several major projects for 2024. They are planning on constructing a new water tower, new housing and building a new facility for their Soaring Eagle Transit program.  What we will be doing next year depends on funding and the make-up and individual skills of our team. One of the things that the Village Administrator, Robin Eleazer, asked was if we could conduct a short VBS while we are there, so we are looking at that possibility as well. We are excited to say that this team is full for 2024.

Mike & Jacintha Simione are leading this team from The Upper Room Missionary Church in York, PA. Mike & Jacintha are worship leaders and have a deep passion for the Lord. Their church has been supporting LightShine Alaska for many years. They will be preparing the team from their church in Pennsylvania for this assignment and joining Steve & Reneè in Alaska. If you have any questions for Mike & Jacintha, email Mike at: or call: 717-968-2875 or call Jacintha at: 717-968-2967.

Steve & Reneè Hoey have been leading teams to Gulkana Village for many years.

We are also very thankful for those who support each individual team member. Every year people step out in faith and make the commitment to raise missionary support in order to “GO”. It is an act of obedience before the Lord that is rewarded when others help them.

The cost of this trip is $1975. Our trip cost covers everything you need once you leave your home until you return. The total is determined by analyzing the cost of team assignments from previous years (things like your airline ticket, ground transportation, three meals a day, and many administrative fees that LightShine incurs).

If you want to be part of this team, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of a LightShine Alaska team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The first financial deadline for half your support ($987.50) is due on May 10, 2024. This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your entire amount is May 24, 2024. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.

The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did! A side benefit on this trip is seeing God’s beautiful creation including mountains, moose and maybe even the northern lights. This will be a life changing experience for you and will give you a new perspective on helping those who are really in need!

And let the [gracious] favor of the Lord our God be on us;
Confirm for us the work of our hands—
Yes, confirm the work of our hands.
