What a wonderful time to be alive! There are so many opportunities to serve our LORD Jesus Christ in Alaska. Whether you are a skilled craftsperson or gifted with working with people, God has a place for you in building up His people and giving Him glory. We work with local churches, Bible camps and other ministries in Alaska to strengthen the Body of Christ there.

This past August we were able to complete "Phase 2" and cleared a lot of land and put in a road and clearing for our new garage to be built in May 2019. Take time to watch the following video and PRAY that the LORD would provide people and the finances need for purchasing building materials. Thank you so much!

Take time to visit our some of our photo albums and team reports on our 2018 teams. But something new for this coming year is that we are dedicating a minimum of 6 teams to build our first building on our new ministry base in Palmer, Alaska.  CLICK HERE to read more about the specific plans of those teams. If you can give towards purchasing build materials, the teams that are forming for those teams will skillfully complete their work on time. We really need your help in giving towards this need.

We are a Kingdom ministry. The Kingdom of Jesus Christ is made up of people - people from all cultures and different ways of life. We desire to connect people and encourage them - building covenant relationships that last a lifetime!

What can destroy relationships like this? The Bible says that we are not at odds with people but against spiritual forces that are unseen to the natural eye (Ephesians 6:12).

We believe the Bible when it teaches us that we are in a spiritual battle in order to subdue kingdoms that are set against our LORD (Hebrews 11:33).  We are not only commanded to make disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20), but all of us at LightShine Ministries have been called to see His Kingdom established in Alaska!

Join with us in simply being Light in darkness!  Jesus said that we are the Light of the world. All demonic principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12) that rule over this great state will be broken down and displaced by the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (1 John 3:8) just by the work of God's people. Jesus told us we would do even greater works than He did (John 14:12-13).  Please pray for brothers and sisters in Christ who do this work in Alaska and for us as we help equip them with tools for ministry.  Jesus will be Lord over all of Alaska!  This is what we are praying and working for!

For 23 years (since 1995) we have been offering assistance to brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ by helping them build His Kingdom in the hearts of the people of Alaska.

We offer short term missionary opportunities for people who love people, love the outdoors and desire to serve our God in places where churches need help in establishing Bible camps.

Please take time to explore our website and ask the Lord if He would have you be a part of our next missionary team to Alaska!

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."  Ephesians 2:10

God has created you to do work for Him.  We view our ministry as a "Pipeline of People" from the lower 48 states to Alaska.  People who love God and His people.

Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)

“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’"

On Saturday, December 15, 2018, a great man of God died in Anchorage, Alaska after serving the LORD with his wife Jean for decades. Mert Weaver was not only an incredible man of God, but he was extremely talented in being able to fix about anything. He was a perfect man for being an Alaskan missionary.

I met Mert & Jean Weaver in 1995 when my wife Ruth, my son Alex and I took our first missionary trip to serve for three weeks in Glennallen, Alaska with SEND of Alaska. Don & Millie Ressler were missionaries from my home church in Paradise, PA and as career missionaries, they were my first contact in Alaska. Mert worked with Don in the maintenance department for SEND and Alaska Bible College. Mert & Jean came to Alaska a year or so before I did and answered the LORD’s call to serve in the north after spending many years working with Teen Missions all across the world. They were such an encouragement to us and went the extra mile picking our teams up at the airport and getting us where we needed to go for many, many years. In those early years, LightShine Ministries helped Mike & Adeline Potts and AJ & Susan Kajer build Strelna Lake Wilderness Bible Camp. Mert & Jean were the ones who helped get our teams out there. We are so grateful for them and their servant heart. The success of LightShine Ministries today is due to those like Mert & Jean that came alongside us and helped us get established. We are very grateful.

What a challenging thing it is to hear when a hero in your life falls prey to Alzheimers and dementia. I remember in 2011 when LightShine Ministries brought a team of talented carpenters to help build Copper Center Community Chapel’s new building. Not many people knew this except for Jean. But I watched our team busily at work as Mert sat in the front seat of Jean’s car unable to get out because he was getting worse and worse. I knew that at one time, Mert could have worked just as hard as ANY guy on that crew. But now he was unable to. That was hard for me to see. Over the last couple years, Jean served her husband and visited him regularly driving over 400 miles (round trip) to see her husband in Anchorage once a week. Her incredible sacrifice is something I will never forget.

Last Saturday, Jean contacted me and told me that Mert had passed. It was both sad and wonderful news at the same time. His time to meet His LORD had come. We are happy for Mert because he is now released from the mind that had kept in mental bondage for the last couple of years. He is now fully healed in the presence of Jesus Christ. Praise His HOLY Name!

Please pray for Jean who has many, many things to work out now. Her family is now in Alaska helping her. But things are hard for her nonetheless.

Thank you, Mert & Jean, for your decades of selfless service for our King. We WILL follow in your footsteps!
