I first heard about LightShine as an answer to prayer. I returned from vacation to Noah’s Ark feeling like I wasted a lot of money. Being the first real vacation since losing my husband, I went with 2 lady friends and we had a good time but it was expensive and well, a disappointment. So I started praying for God to fill me with the knowledge of His will for my life. I wanted to go on a short-term missions trip. Three months of prayers and there it was in my church bulletin. The answer to my prayer, a whole list of short term missions trips.
I looked at all the trips and the only one that fit my schedule was the one to Alaska. I couldn’t believe it. ALASKA, LORD? Do I have to travel that far to serve you? I thought I made it clear in my prayers that I wanted to serve a little closer like Lancaster County. No, ALASKA. The next week I met Bob and Angie Neuenschwander and they were so nice and answered all my questions and I read everything they gave me. God made it crystal clear that this is where He wanted me to go. So July of 2023 I was in Glennallen, Alaska at Cross Road Medical Center happily pulling weeds, landscaping (fortunately no snakes in Alaska) and painting a medical center. God provided all my support from 17 generous, Godly people.
Bob was a great team leader too. The team was great to work with, in fact we finished the med center early and they asked us to paint the garage too. I have never been so blessed in all my life. To follow the Lord when He calls is so difficult at times but obedience is the only way to live. I often think of the song ‘Trust and Obey” how simple and yet some people would rather live fighting God over little things that separate them from Him instead of being obedient. That’s what I almost did this year. I had my knee replaced and was having a difficult recovery.
Because of my knee replacement I couldn’t even play my french horn in the orchestra at Calvary Church. I was praying and asking the Lord to take this pain away but I had several set backs and got discouraged. I was certain I was to return to Cross Road again this year but I couldn’t climb the steep hills there. One day I spoke to Bob about it and suddenly a voice in me said there are no hills at the base camp and they need 2 more people. I asked if I was allowed to switch teams. Sure enough it all worked out. And I made my second trip to Alaska this year helping on House Team 3.

Now I am looking forward to learning more about how things run behind the scenes. I’ve learned how to book flights from Carl Ginder. He is a very good teacher and a patient man. I make mistakes but I am excited to be helpful in this new capacity. I used to be a Veterinary Technician/Office Manager in a veterinarian’s office for 20 years so I am hoping that I can use some of that knowledge to assist LightShine in the background and be a blessing and an encouragment to all of you. My goal in life is to be a servant of the Lord.
