Regent Life Church – Royal River Church – Christian Community Church (CCC)
We have been friends with the leadership of Regent Life Church (above) for over a decade. Over the years we have been able to come alongside them and helped them transform the old bowling alley into their new church building. The other end of their building is an old restaurant which we helped them renovate into a new youth outreach facility. 
Adjacent to their church building is the high school and one of the things we are helping them do is build a pathway and retaining wall to the new youth center.
Our team will be working in Homer, Alaska for two weeks from May 10 – 26. We will start at Regent Life Church and help them to finish their stone retaining wall. There are 7 pallets of stone that need to be placed to finish the wall.
Once that is completed, the team will be heading over to Royal River Camp. This is a brand new kids camp located on 40 acres just outside of Homer. The leadership at Regent Life Church have a vision to make this into an adventure Bible camp with a rope course, zip line, archery shoots, and tomahawk throwing.
The land is a blank slate so they are making plans for our team and deciding what projects they want us to tackle. They would like a woodshed built to store firewood, platforms for tents, storage shed built for tools and equipment, and eventually a camp kitchen. There is a lot of work to do to get this camp started. It’s only accessible by ATV or by foot.
Once we wrap up the first week working with the leaders of Regent Life Church, then we will be moving over to Christian Community Church (CCC) in Homer to help them with building renovations. They recently had a building inspection and the report is 19 pages long. The trustees of the church will be reviewing the report and then prioritizing what projects we will be working on. At this time, we have 8 team members committed but we can still use a few more gifted carpenters and builders to complete our team.
The cost of this trip is $2075 (2 week trip). Our trip cost covers everything you need once you leave your home until you return. The total is determined by analyzing the cost of team assignments from previous years (things like your airline ticket, ground transportation, three meals a day, and many administrative fees that LightShine incurs).
If you want to be part of this team, please complete this Registration Form with a $40 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of a LightShine Alaska team shirt and locks you in as a team member. Once you are contacted by your team leader and your place is secured on this team, you can begin raising financial support by sending out support letters to your family and church friends. Simply have them send missionary support to us for your trip costs. Your team leader will help you develop your support letter and include two important dates for your supporters to note. The first financial deadline for half your support ($1,037.50) is due on March 29, 2024. This first deadline is very important to keep because it will enables us to purchase your airline tickets. Once airline tickets are purchased, there is no backing out of the team. The second deadline for your entire amount is April 12, 2024. Please note that these deadlines are strictly enforced. Not keeping them will cause us to ask you to step down from this team and consider another future team. Please take time to review our “Policies” page for more information.
The earlier you register the sooner you can start raising your financial support. We encourage you to get this out of the way early so you can enjoy the experience without any distractions. You will be so glad you did! A side benefit on this trip is seeing God’s beautiful creation including mountains, moose and maybe even the northern lights. This will be a life changing experience for you and will give you a new perspective on helping those who are really in need!
