King David had a group of 37 men who fought alongside him as his “special forces”. They are listed in 2 Samuel 23:8-38 and 1 Chronicles 11:40-47. They not only protected their King but they also made war against the enemies of Israel. God declared in Exodus 17:16 that He would “make war with Amalek from generation to generation”. It is clear from scripture that a demonic principality dominated and motivated the enemies of Israel throughout their history in the Old Testament and continues to this day. This “Spirit of Amalek” is an ancient demonic principality and continues to reveal itself in nations and people groups today who seek to eradicate Israel. Ephesians 6:12 tells us clearly that principalities and powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual hosts rule nations and inhabit people who manifest their hatred against God’s people. The culmination of their demonic influence will ultimately usher in the coming Antichrist who will attempt to rule the world (Revelation 13:11-18). But he will be utterly annihilated by Jesus Christ Himself as He returns as the final “Mighty Warrior” (Revelation 19:11-21) as the Most High God. As David’s mighty men taunted their enemy and subdued them under the power of the Holy Spirit, we must also embrace the same authority that was given to us by the completed and fulfilled Blood Covenant of our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8) and continue on the work of destroying the work of devil as Jesus did (1 John 3:8, Luke 10:19, Mark 16:17-18).
